Famous Americans Exit Project - Grade 5

The Annual Famous Americans Project is an opportunity for students to do an intensive study of a Famous American using a variety of resources, and then to create several products to demonstrate their learning.  These projects include:

  1. A written research report with bibliography including the events of a person's life, their impact on a particular field, the significance of their individual contribution, and an analysis of how he/she affected history.
  2. A poster, timeline, or visual aid about their person.
  3. A business card to be presented at an evening presentation.
  4. A short Powerpoint presentation with at least one slide that will be incorporated into a large group presentation.
  5. Contributing to this wiki, which reflects the research that students did about their Famous American
  6. A short interview recorded into podcast format, posted to this wiki (With a partner, you will write a script using this planner.)

STUDENTS:

Post your information to this wiki by clicking on the name of your Famous American to the right on the Sidebar. On your wiki page, you should include:

1.  A small picture of your person uploaded

2.  A copy of your proposal that you wrote for this project, OR a short paragraph explaining why you wanted to study your person

3.  Your complete project uploaded to your page (copy and paste)

4.  A copy of your completed bibliography at the bottom of your report  (Use the Source Cards to collect the information for your bibliography).

5.  Your interview podcast

In addition, you should:

6.  Visit the Famous Americans Contributions page, and add your person to the list under his/her field with a brief description

7.  Visit the Timeline of Famous Americans page, and place your famous American in order of his/her birth on the list (chronologically)

8.  Visit the pages of at least five other Famous Americans, and make an intelligent comment about that person (on the bottom of the page).

The pages below include specific descriptions of the project, resource links, as well as a place for students to post specific information about their particular subject of study.
